Apple Watch Body Temperature | Thermometer Guide

If you are looking for an Apple watch with body temperature or thermometer sensor that can measure your body temperature then I am sorry to say that there are no Apple watches with that feature. But I will recommend a better option, A device similar to a smartwatch that will allow you to measure your body temperature much more accurately than other wearable on the market. I will also cover other aspects of our topic in much more detail so be sure to read them as well.

It has been confirmed from apple that they do not have any smartwatches that can measure body temperature just yet. You will notice that their latest smartwatches do not have any dedicated thermo-sensor and it is for this reasons Apple watches can not measure body temperature.

Most Apple users and fans are requesting if Apple can integrate a new feature that would record body temperature on their next smartwatch release. Their new Apple watch series 6 dose not have any thermosensor that would measure body temperature.

Temperature Confusion

Don’t confuse body temperature with surrounding temperature because they are not the same. Apple watches can provide you with data for you local environmental temperature but they can not measure body temperature.

If you want a device that can measure the skin temperature than Fitbit would be an excellent option. Fitbit can measure your body temperature using an integrated smart sensor that comes in contact with your skin in order to estimate the baseline skin temperature.

They also provide a platform where the readings are recorded and stored online so that that users can see the history of skin temperature over a Given period of time.

Temperature Readings

If you are wondering how is it that some Apple watches are getting temperature readings? Well like I have mentioned, those temperatures are not body temperatures, they are surrounding or environmental temperatures.

Those temperatures that you see on Apple watches are weather temperatures on weather apps. Those are not body temperatures or skin temperatures so don’t get confused on those temperatures.

Since apple dose not have any integrated mechanisms for measuring body temperature, Don’t get confused with apps like ThermoWatch+ that are designed to measure tempRectumeratures. Those temperatures are only environment temperatures.

Everyone was hoping that a feature for measuring body temperature would appear on Apple Watch Series 8 and this would conveniently turn an Apple watch device into thermometer. This can be used for detecting fever and other illnesses.

Apple Watch Series 6

Some thought that Apple watch series 6 would measure body temperature but that is not the case. Apple watch series 6 can only measure blood oxygen, contains ECG and more

Some smartwatches such as the Ticwris GTS is considered the first wearable device to take temperature measurement. This particular watch comes with a square shape appearance and you should not get lured into those advertisement because if you take a closer look at this particular product, you will find that is has low rating on Amazon.

3Plus HR Plus Fitness Tracker

Some have recommended 3Plus HR Plus Fitness Tracker for measuring body temperature which is NOT the best option. If you take a closer look at the rating of this product, it is better that you don’t opt in because you will end up with unreliable data.

You must be wondering what device can be used to measure body temperature? A good choice for this is the femometer Touch-less Thermometer. You can use it for Adults and Kids and it is a Non Contact Digital Thermometer for Fever. You can take your measurement on the Forehead. This particular thermometer can be used for Home and Family as well. The main reason why I recommend this device is because it has a lot of rating on Amazon and you will notice that there is a lot of positive feedback from it’s users.

Fitbit Sense Advanced Smartwatch

If you want a device that you can wear it as a smartwatch I would recommend the Fitbit Sense Advanced Smartwatch because it comes with features such as Heart Health monitoring, Stress Management tracker and Skin Temperature Trends monitoring. It is made with Carbon and Graphite.

If you are like me, I always measure someone else’s body temperature by using my hand and placing it on their forehead. If I can feel that it is hot then I would ask if everything is okay. The steps for checking a person for fever without a thermometer is by following this few simple steps;

  1. Placing the back of your hand on the four-head
  2. Notice the pale look

How dose the temperature sensor work?

A Non-contact temperature sensors are basically infrared (IR) sensors and they can detect the IR energy emitted by an object without any close contact and they send an electronic signal using a calibrated electronic circuit which helps determines the object’s temperature.

In medical applications, Infrared (IR) temperature sensors allows accurate temperature measurement without any contact or touching between the device and the skin. This type of Infrared (IR) sensor is used to measure;

  • Ear temperature
  • Forehead temperature
  • Skin temperature.

Is temperature sensor accurate?

A temperature sensor determines how accurate the whole temperature measurement loop is. If the temperature sensors are calibrated correctly, then you would expect the data to be correct as well.

How many types of temperature sensors are there?
Basically there are four types of temperature sensors and they are used mostly by modern-day electronic devices such as:

  • Thermocouples
  • RTDs (resistance temperature detectors),
  • Thermistors
  • Semiconductor based integrated circuits (IC).

There are certain spots on the body that can provide reasonable estimations of your body temperature and they are through the

  • Rectum
  • Ear
  • Forehead
  • Armpit
  • Mouth.

You should known that your average body temperature is approximately 98°F, but interestingly enough there several ways to measure body temperature and as you can expect the measurements can be collected in different ways.

Body Temperature

Generally, 98.6°F (37°C) is the average normal body temperature that everyone accepts but did you know that there was a study showing that the “normal” body temperature can even have a wider range, starting from 97°F (36.1°C) to 99°F (37.2°C). If your temperature goes over 100.4°F (38°C) then that means you have a fever or an infection or illness.

Always consider this a fact, when a temperature goes over 37.5°C or 99.5°F whether it is a child or adult, it can be classed as a fever and the most common symptoms for it are

  • Continuous cough
  • High temperature (37.8C or greater)
  • Loss of sense of smell and taste
